The day of action was carried out by Ashfield District Council’s environmental teams, who also cleared roads and pathways of weeds, litter and dog mess.
Road sweepers were sent out to clean areas which had excessive dirt and rubbish on verges and gutters – while a service road to the rear of Outram Street was also tidied up.

The event was organised by Coun Samantha Deakin, who represents Sutton Central and New Cross, and she was joined by council leader Jason Zadrozny and council officers.
“This is the first part of work to gain a better understanding of the area’s needs,” said Coun Deakin. “We know that parts of New Cross have long-standing problems, so this is just the start of work to strengthen communities and make residents feel pride within their local area.”
A dedicated environmental enforcement team starts work next month to tackle littering and dog fouling across the district.
