THOUSANDS of visitors are expected to descend on Edwinstowe's Sherwood Forest Country Park later this month for the ever-popular annual Robin Hood Festival.
The week-long spectacular is Nottinghamshire's biggest celebration of the life and times of its legendary outlaw hero and will feature a variety of acts and entertainers –– ranging from jugglers and jesters, strolling minstrels and street theatre performers to archers and experts in medieval combat.

Organisers are welcoming the return of many festival favourites including Alan a'Dale and Festa, Legends and What a Palaver, as well Zebediah the Ratcatcher and Grunal the Moneyer.

Familiar faces also returning are the medieval longbowman, William of Sherwood –– with new faces including jesting duo Brum and Dudley, playful buffoon Simple Tom, double act Foolscap Productions and the Oakwood Outlaws.

Visitors will also be entertained by falconry displays, jousting and archery and there will be a chance for budding Robin Hoods and Maid Marians to test their prowess with the longbow.

Experience Nottinghamshire –– the official tourism board for the county –– is supporting the event, which attracted a record 75,000 visitors last year.

Admission to the Robin Hood Festival –– which runs between 28th July-3rd August –– is free, although there is a small charge for some of the events. Parking is £3 per car, but is free for coaches and minibuses with more than 12 seats as well as disabled badge holders.

Copies of the free festival programme are available from local libraries, county contact points, tourist information centres and the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre. Or they can be sent by post by calling 08449 808080 or visiting www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/robinhoodfestival.
